There are not many things in life these days that irritate me enough to warrant the energy that irritation takes but occasionally, I find a little irritation is a good thing. It reminds me that there is real red blood coursing through my veins and being alive means being able to become irritated.
At the forefront of irritators in my life (you know – alongside John Campbell’s abysmal hosting of the first leader’s debate and Tame’s constant interruptions and apparent inability to understand pretty basic concepts), is so called “stars” or “personalities” telling us what they think (about anything other than how wonderful they are), as though anybody gives a toss what they think.
I’m still waiting for all those “stars” who were going to leave the USA after Trump was elected to actually do so. None have. If they ever actually did what they threatened, it might be possible to almost have some respect for their integrity. Instead, the ultimate hypocrisy is that they just mouth off telling other people what they should do while they live a life of luxury locked up behind security fences in mansions.
But I digress. My day was made when I read in the Herald that Ella Yellich-O’Connor has encouraged me to vote:

Wow. Three totally irrelevant and useless pieces of information from a singer/composer of sorts, that warrant publication in what used to be New Zealand’s premium newspaper. I just hope the fact that she has broken her social media silence won’t have done too much damage to it after all, having a broken social media silence must be a reasonably serious matter! I’m not a fan (though I applaud her musical success), so being teased about an album release won’t exactly raise me to peaks of excitement and being encouraged to vote by a young person (who showed how little she knows about the real world by cancelling her concert in Israel) is a no go zone. For goodness sake, no real experience of life, no education to speak of (having bailed after year 12), telling us all to vote? Seriously?
“Hey. Are u from New Zealand?”, she posted. “I am,” she wrote – captioning a selfie of her out for a walk.
“This was honestly incredible [sic] difficult to format and I hope you can repay me with the humble act of VOTING” she wrote
“Incredible difficult to format”? That’s a joke right? 2/10 for knowing she’s a New Zealander. -5/10 for the formatting nonsense.
To be fair, I know it targets the younger voter but this kind of stuff really helps me to feel alive. I know I am because it irritates me! Paid ad maybe?
