The wunderkind has quit, just weeks after taking over. Stuff reports:

Todd Muller has resigned as leader of the National Party.

Muller announced early on Tuesday morning that he was resigning from the leadership of the party immediately.

“It has become clear to me that I am not the best person to be Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the New Zealand National Party at this critical time for New Zealand.

“It is more important than ever that the New Zealand National Party has a leader who is comfortable in the role.

“The role has taken a heavy toll on me personally, and on my family, and this has become untenable from a health perspective.”

I’m sorry but that just sounds weak and pathetic. Unless he has something like brain cancer that is just a massive cop out.

It sounds like he thought the job would easier. It wasn’t what he expected, so he’s quit.

But as for saying he’s doing it for the party, well, I can think of better things he could have done than resign 8 weeks from a general election.

Of course he may well have been caught up in the Boag scandal. We await a full explanation.
