Cancel culture is really about getting rid of talent. Mediocrity and cowardice are like Kryptonite to the forces of cancellation. In a declining, degenerate, and fundamentally absurd system such as that of the 2020 anglosphere, standing out with genuine talent and ideas that challenge the core ideas of the neoliberal consensus on a fundamental level is unforgivable.
Cancel culture is a competitive mechanism. For the Left it’s the way to keep effective adversaries from rising. For mediocrities on the Right it’s a bread and butter mechanism to avoid competition from smarter, braver and more talented people.
Both the establishment on the Left and Right use cancel culture as a means to keep hold of the reins of power. In fact, precisely because the Right is designed to be limited to weak, unaesthetic cognitive mediocrities who play second fiddle to their cultural superiors on the Left, cancel culture on the Right is an essential feature, not just a bug. Examples of this from the Right can be seen with people just as Sam Francis, Jason Richwine and Patrick Buchanan.
The Right doesn’t just bend the knee to the outrage mob because they are cowards, but also because they see it as an opportunity for them to gatekeep. Ask yourself, what does Fox News or the Right-wing as a whole gain when Fox News fires one of Tucker Carlson’s writers, Blake Neff; apparently fired for his “racist, homophobic and misogynistic” posts online? Do you think a Leftist will say, “Oh wow I guess Fox News and Tucker aren’t racist white supremacists!” No, of course not. This ridiculous and unnecessary denunciation of Blake Neff from Fox News hardly sounds any different from any other Far Left media corporation:
“We want to make abundantly clear that Fox News Media strongly condemns this horrific racist, misogynistic and homophobic behaviour. Neff’s abhorrent conduct was never divulged to the show until Friday, at which point we swiftly accepted his resignation. Make no mistake, actions such as his cannot and will not be tolerated at any time in any part of our work force.”
This condemnation of Blake Neff won’t win back the countless advertisers who have boycotted Tucker Carlson, it won’t earn them respectability from the rest of the corporate mainstream media, and it won’t convince anyone on the Left to change their opinion about Fox News or the broader Right-wing. So why go through the motions of this performative disavowal?
The Right will never win if it continues to play by the rules of its enemies and pointing out the hypocrisies of the Left won’t bring about victory either. However, if you’ve probably already noticed, the establishment Right doesn’t want to win. They simply want to conserve their jobs as the weak and ineffective opposition.
The establishment systems can tolerate smart, talented, effective people on the Left, although thanks to the efforts of their Bioleninism they are in increasingly short supply of individuals with such qualities. However, the system cannot tolerate such people on the genuine or dissident Right, as it would collapse the establishment’s power structure if people with the aforementioned attributes were allowed to rise in popularity and influence.
On the Right, cancel culture is an essential feature not a hypothetical bug. Both the Left and Right establishments gain when genuine Right-wing thinkers are cancelled and left to the wolves. The establishment Right wins by maintaining its place as the weak and useless opposition to the Left’s cultural hegemony, and the Left obviously wins by not having any strong and genuine Right-wing critique or alternative to their socially destructive ideas.
