When you hear the Deputy Prime Minister tell people overseas they better think about getting back here pronto, then you know we have a problem coming.

Some of you don’t believe a word that Winston Peters ever says so you can carry on regardless, and suffer accordingly. I’ll be listening though.

Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters has told 80,000 Kiwis travelling overseas to get home now – before it’s too late.

“If you’re travelling it’s very likely you could be shut off very shortly,” Peters said today.

“If you can get home, come home now.”

That is fairly stern, fairly emphatic. The first step will be closing the external borders. The next step will be to forbid internal travel. The one after that will be making everyone stay at home under lockdown as is currently happening in Italy.

Very credible rumours are coming out of Australia that an Italian style lock down is imminent there. You can be sure that whatever Australia does we will follow shortly thereafter.

This is the time to make sure that you have your emergency supplies laid in. People aren’t stupid and though shoppers are remaining calm they are also buying up staples and raw goods like rice, pasta and tinned goods.

Things are going to get tough, so be prepared.
