It’s practically a re-run of HBO’s hit drama of last year, Chernobyl: an authoritarian regime magnifies what might have been a mere disaster into a potentially globe-threatening catastrophe, due to its obsessive secrecy and culture of cover-up, lies and blame-shifting.
The only big difference is that the actual death toll of Chernobyl was mercifully, miraculously, far lower than that of COVID-19, the Chinese Virus.
But if China hadn’t lied and obfuscated, the death toll could have been remarkably lower now, too.
China could have significantly curbed the spread of the coronavirus and reduced the number of cases by 95 percent, if authorities had taken action three weeks earlier than they did, according to a study published in March.
Make no mistake, this is a disaster entirely of Beijing’s making. Not that they’re about to admit it, even now.
China’s government — as well as pundits, journalists and other media figures in the United States — have slammed [President] Trump for emphasizing the coronavirus’ Chinese origins and accused him of attempting to shift blame to the communist nation.
However, a University of Southampton study published last week appears to support the idea that the spread of the coronavirus could have been curtailed by swifter action from the Chinese regime.
The study’s authors estimated that without non-pharmaceutical measures —such as quarantines, travel restrictions and early detection — aimed at limiting the disease, the number of persons infected in China by the end of February would have been 67 times higher.
The flipside of this is that, had they acted earlier, instead of imprisoning whistleblowers, censoring social media and destroying scientific evidence, Beijing could have reduced the toll by an astonishing degree.
“The research also found that if interventions in the country could have been conducted one week, two weeks, or three weeks earlier, cases could have been reduced by 66 percent, 86 percent and 95 percent respectively – significantly limiting the geographical spread of the disease,” the study’s authors said.
According to researchers, “non pharmaceutical interventions” could have “significantly reduced the number of affected areas” had they been implemented sooner.
Predictably, though, instead of holding China’s feet to the fire as they ought, Beijing’s useful idiots in the West are doing the Chinese Communist Party’s dirty work with their customary zeal.
Numerous liberal politicians, commentators and journalists have echoed the Chinese government’s claim that using terms such as “Wuhan virus” or “China virus” to refer to the coronavirus is racist and that it is unfair to blame China for the disease.
China’s globalist lickspittles are playing along, too.
The World Health Organization has similarly urged against the use of “Wuhan Virus,” “Chinese Virus” or “Asian Virus” to describe the illness.
“The official name for the disease was deliberately chosen to avoid stigmatization,” the WHO said in a statement.
Yet the WHO happily refers to Ebola virus, Nipah virus, MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome), West Nile Virus, German Measles…
This is nothing to do with “avoiding stigmatization” and everything to do with dutifully peddling Beijing’s propaganda.
The Chinese regime knows this is all their fault – and still they’re lying about it. The thousands of deaths, from Italy to the United States, the businesses going broke during the shutdown, everyone living in fear right now – this is all on Beijing’s head.
They could have stopped all this and they didn’t. Never forget, never forgive.
