Please sign this petition calling on Winston Peters to immediately withdraw his Government’s Abortion Legislation Bill. It is not too late for him to do the right thing here. SAY NO TO ABORTION! Dear Leo, Before the 2017 election, deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters made clear to voters that the New Zealand First party would not decriminalise abortion.

Peters promised that his party would support a change to the law stating that the unborn child has a right to life and also that they would improve informed consent during the abortion process. Not only that, but New Zealand first also promised that they would implement parental notification for girls aged 15 and under who were seeking an abortion.

Now that he is in a coalition government Winston Peters has gone back on all of his promises and the firm stance previously taken by New Zealand First party in defence of the unborn despite the fact that these policies were popular with his voters.

In a complete betrayal of those who voted for him, Mr Peters has been responsible for a bill which would introduce extreme abortion measures into New Zealand, allowing for abortion right up until the moment of birth. Sign our petition telling Winston Peters to immediately withdraw this bill and stop betraying his voters If this bill becomes law, it will introduce into New Zealand the most extreme abortion measures in the entire world. It will allow for abortion for any reason up until birth. It will also scrap the current 20 week limit for disability selective abortion, allowing abortion right up until birth for babies with minor disabilities such as cleft palate and club foot.

The bill will legalise sex-selective abortion and scrap the need for licensed premises, meaning that abortion can be carried out anywhere, including in schools, via mobile clinics and even via Facetime consultations.

There will be no need for the two licensed doctors to sign off the abortion and neither would a licenced doctor be needed to perform an abortion, meaning that the procedure could be carried out by midwives and pharmacists without a trained doctor on hand, in case of complications.

This places vulnerable women at huge risk.  Join with me and sign our petition to send a strong message to Winston Peters that he must not introduce such a horrific regime upon New Zealand and protect pregnant women and babies.

There can be no doubt that Winston Peters is behind this bill. His MP, Tracey Martin has worked on this over an 8-month period and it has been signed off by his cabinet in which he is the number two ranked minister. Mr  Peters is attempting to hide behind claims that he will introduce a referendum amendment at the Committee stage in order to give New Zealanders a say on whether or not these extreme measures become law. He knows full well that such an amendment would have no chance of passing if introduced at that stage. If he was really serious, then he would have insisted that his Government include a provision guaranteeing a referendum on this extreme law in the body of this original bill. He hasn’t done this.

The fact is that New Zealanders, do not want such an inhumane and barbaric abortion regime introduced into their country  – recent polling demonstrates that only 4% of the New Zealand public supports introducing abortion up until birth.

This is a bill designed to appeal to a tiny minority of zealots, not the vast majority of sensible New Zealanders who find the idea of late-term abortion, abhorrent. Winston Peters’ Government is in control of the passage of this Bill and has the power to withdraw it. Demand that they do so now.
