While most BFD readers might already view the Trump impeachment as a farce, many all over the world (including so-called “media experts” and assorted “academics”) seem unable to focus exclusively on the facts but remain captive to the highly emotive rhetoric espoused by the Democrats and the MSM.

The Democrats, aided and abetted by a compliant MSM, have done an outstanding job selling “The Illusion of Truth”: repetition makes a fact seem more true, regardless of whether it is or not.

Typical examples are found being constantly repeated in all the Democrat impeachment speeches to Congress, at the Committee “hearings”, at press conferences and media interviews.

The BFD – US Congressman Jerry Nadler

Representative Jerry Nadler, one of the main drivers of this impeachment and someone who crossed swords with Trump some years ago over a building in New York, set the scene with his speech to Congress:

The president used his public office to coerce a foreign government into attacking his political rival.

The memo of the phone call is on the public record. Here is the relevant part:

President Trump: “I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a  lot about it. I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike […] I guess you have one of your wealthy people […] The server, they say Ukraine has it. There are a lot of things that went on, the whole situation. I think you’re surrounding yourself with some of the same people; I would like to have the Attorney General call you or your people and I would like you to get to the bottom of it. As you saw yesterday, that whole nonsense ended with a very poor performance by a man named Robert Mueller, an incompetent performance, but they say a lot of it started with Ukraine. Whatever you can do, it’s very important that you do it if that’s possible.”

Illusion of Truth?

“The President took extreme and unprecedented steps to obstruct our investigation into his conduct”.

The evidence is that the president did nothing extreme, unprecedented or unusual.

The subpoenas according to advice provided by the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel, were unauthorized and had no legal force. Executive Privilege has been invoked many times by many Presidents over the past 50 years. The President invoked Executive Privilege on the advice of the OLC.

The Democrats have the option to challenge any Executive Privilege in court but did not do so.

Illusion of Truth?

“President Trump placed his private political interests above our national security, above our elections and above our system of checks and balances”.

“After months of investigation, there can be no serious debate about the evidence at hand”.

There is no evidence to support this opinion. Illusion of Truth?

“When he spoke to Presdient Zelensky of Ukraine, President Trump had the upper hand. The president, through his agents, had already demanded that Ukraine announce an investigation of his political opponents.”

It’s probably a reasonable expectation that a newly elected, first time and youthful President Zelensky might feel a little intimidated speaking with the US President, however, he has publicly stated that he didn’t feel pressured so you decide – fact or: Illusion of Truth?

“President Trump should have been focused on the interests of the American people on that call. Instead, he prioritized his private political interests.”

“President Trump asked President Zelinsky for a favour. He wanted Ukraine to announce two bogus investigations, one into former Vice President Biden, then his leading opponent in the 2020 election and another to advance a conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russia, attacked our elections in 2016.”

“One was intended to help President Trump conceal the truth about the 2016 election, the other was intended to help gain an advantage in the 2020 election.”

“There would be no aid and no meeting until the Ukraine announced the sham investigations.”

A president may not misuse the powers of the presidency to obtain an improper personal benefit. The evidence shows that President Trump did exactly that.”

For all the emotive language and repetition (which has been carried on by every Democrat and the MSM at every opportunity), the evidence is non-existent and the whole impeachment is a political game. An Illusion of Truth.

The unintended consequences for the United States are potentially far more wide-reaching than the foolish perpetrators can possibly have considered. If they had, they would not have gone down this pathway. The country faces a major constitutional crisis and the Trump derangement syndrome seen to date might turn out to be a precursor for who knows what from the whacky, demented left.
