There’s a grim joke doing the rounds of Meme-Land: what’s the difference between Jeffrey Epstein and the Democrats? Epstein didn’t hang himself.
Even CNN, the epicentre of media Trump-derangement since 2016, can see what the Democrats apparently can’t: the Trump Impeachment is a slow suicide for the Democrats.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement Tuesday that the full House would vote on sending the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump to the Senate this week — a move that will formally trigger the start of the trial against the President in the upper chamber — amounts to a stark concession that her plan to delay that action for nearly a month failed.
“Fail” is a word that describes the whole impeachment clown show, to a T.
At every step of the way, the Democrats have made it clear that this is nothing more than a shonky political ploy to try and overturn the election they thought was theirs by right. It was obvious from the instant Democrats began shrieking about impeachment, even before Trump was sworn into office. It’s only become more obvious as the circus has rolled on. Opinion polling shows that the American public isn’t buying. Neither is the US Senate.
Pelosi has withheld the articles of impeachment for over a month (which meant that, technically, Trump hadn’t actually been impeached), hoping to bluff the Senate into folding to her demands. The Senate laughed in her face.
Pelosi’s goal was simple: To try to force Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s hand. Pelosi wanted to use her possession of the articles of impeachment to yield promises and/or compromises from McConnell — most notably on the issue of witnesses being allowed to be called in the Senate trial.
Except that McConnell wasn’t playing ball.
The Democrats were desperate to not call any new witnesses. Their hand-picked witnesses have already humiliated them by grudgingly admitting that every bit of gossip they used against Trump was third-hand, or less. But, if the Senate calls new witnesses, things will go from bad to hilariously worse for the Democrats. If either Biden senior or junior is called to testify about their shonky businesses in the Ukraine, it will end up being the Democrat leadership on trial, not Trump.
Which left Pelosi hung out to dry[…]the move she announced Tuesday is the equivalent of throwing her hand in, understanding that what she was holding was, in a word, dreck.
