It appears if you were born with a nasty side to your personality you are destined for the left side of politics. Politicians on the left have a propensity to be anti-democratic, unwilling to listen to the other side of a discussion and have a mantra that it’s okay if we do it. They frequently play the person and not the ball.

A good example of this occurred in America in the last week when the Republican senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, announced he was going to request documents relating to Joe Biden’s son Hunter in relation to his work in the Ukraine. Lindsey started out by saying that Joe Biden was a decent man. He had had a lot of tragedy in his life which he had borne with strength and dignity. However, he, Lindsey said he also had a job to do as a U S Senator. In response, Biden said Graham was about to go down in a way he would regret his whole life.  He said he was angered by the fact Graham knew him and his son and he was embarrassed for him for what he was doing.

In the UK election, the Labour Party has been condemned for releasing a video which smears employers, landlords and wealth creators as abusive economic parasites. The purpose of the video evidently was to galvanise young voters in marginal seats.

On the domestic front, we had Tracey Martin complimenting David Seymour on the work he had done on his Choice of Life Bill but then couldn’t help herself and concluded by saying “that’ll be the last time I acknowledge anything like that Mr Seymour.” We’ve had Damien O’Connor being rude to farmers on two occasions in recent months along with Shane Jones calling them rednecks. Not content with that Mr Jones tells those from the Indian community that if they don’t like the rules here they can catch the next plane home. We mustn’t forget David Parker has also had a go at the farmers over water rights. The same man who made a comment to Judith Collins about her ‘sleeping in a crypt.’

Chloe Swarbrick thought she was all hip and woke by insulting a good proportion of the population with her “OK boomer” remark. The Greens produced a video mocking Simon Bridges’ accent. James Shaw said he would never empower someone with as little personal integrity as Simon Bridges to become Prime Minister. We have had Julie-Anne Genter threatening the Wellington Council and Phil Twyford sacking the entire board of the NZTA.

There are many other examples. It is almost as if nastiness is part of their DNA. One could be fooled into thinking it was something to do with a left-wing strategy. it would appear the Democrats in America are employing it as such to oust Donald Trump. On the home front, it appears it’s just who they are. Not very nice people to know.

A right-wing crusader. Reached an age that embodies the dictum only the good die young. Country music buff. Ardent Anglophile. Hates hypocrisy and by association left-wing politics.
