In an interview with Sam Harris in 2017, sociologist Charles Murray observed that it had become obvious “that the new upper-class holds ordinary Americans in contempt. Disdain. And they’re not even hiding it any more”. Murray particularly referred to Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” sneer. That comment, Murray said (quoting Jonathan Haidt), “changed the history of the world”. With just three words, Clinton delivered made Donald Trump’s election a certainty.
Mainstream America notices the disdain in which the coastal elites hold the vast swathe of “flyover country”.
You’d think the Democrat candidates vying to run in 2020 might have learned from Clinton’s faux pas. Instead, they’re doubling down on their sneering contempt for mainstream America and its values.
The Democrat field is a risible cavalcade of identity politics clowns like Corey Booker and Kamala Harris, fossilised socialists, and clueless white guilt peddlers.
Beto O’Rourke’s plans to confiscate guns from law-abiding citizens and to put churches out of business, combined with Elizabeth Warren’s stinging insult that conservative religious people are too ugly and backward to find a suitable mate, are good reminders that the national Democratic Party has simply abandoned rural and Middle America.
O’Rourke, a gormless manbaby, is taking Obama’s 2008 jibe about “bitter clingers” and their “guns and Bibles” and trumpeting from the rooftops and tv screens.
“Do you think religious institutions like colleges, churches, charities — should they lose their tax-exempt status if they oppose same-sex marriage?” asked moderator Don Lemon. O’Rourke didn’t hesitate: “Yes.”
Say goodbye to your place of worship if Beto gets his way […]This followed O’Rourke’s previous call for mandatory gun confiscation.
O’Rourke is managing to alienate not just churchgoing, gun-owning rural whites, but the black voters previously rusted on to the Democrat plantation, whose church pastors often double as political preachers. Expect the “Walkaway” movement to gain strength, if the Democrats keep their anti-religious rhetoric up.
Beto’s answers on guns and religion weren’t all that surprising coming from a thoughtless, skateboarding ne’er-do-well trying to goose a flailing campaign. But the thunderous applause from the studio audiences will ring in the ears of rural voters for quite some time. It’s not just Beto — base Democrats really believe this stuff.
Front-running Elizabeth Warren is no better.
Warren is already labouring under the twin weight of being an overpaid, Ivy League elitist who shamelessly faked minority status in order to advance her career. Doing a “Hillary” and sneering at ordinary Americans will only make her more unelectable.
Responding to a hypothetical encounter with an American who believes in traditional marriage, Warren responded with a smart-alecky jibe about marrying “one woman…assuming you can find one”. Haw-haw.
Drawing sustained applause and cheers from the crowd…Playing to the audience, she added the final insult — that people (especially men) with conservative values on traditional marriage are just plain ugly. And this comes from a Democrat who routinely attacks Trump as divisive. What a hypocrite.
But Warren has more chickens than just her opportunistic elitism and jeering contempt for mainstream Americans coming home to roost.
2020’s version of Warren, further woke and delighted by applause from small crowds locked in television studios, said that now she believes inmates are “entitled” to transgender surgery, at taxpayer expense. Warren perhaps was catching up to former Vice President Joe Biden, who endorsed taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries back in September.
Imagine Democrats going door-to-door in the Pennsylvania countryside next fall on a platform of, “Well, I see that you are too ugly to find a spouse. Anyhow, we are raising your taxes to pay for inmate gender reassignment surgery. Do you have your gun and church directory handy, by the way?”

The Democrats’ policies are suicidally insane, but only a Democrat would fail to notice. Because the Democrats and their supporters live in splendid isolation from the reality of mainstream America. There are no “deplorables” allowed inside their gated communities and walled compounds.
In America, the Democrats are the party for people who don’t think they’re better off than you – they think they’re actually better. And they don’t care what you think.
