Born today in 1945, Ray Royer guitarist with Procol Harum and Freedom, he recorded “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” with Procol Harum before being kicked out along with Bobby Harrison with who he formed Freedom.
Born today in 1948, Johnny Ramone (John Cummings) songwriter and guitarist with The Ramones.
Born today in 1949, Hamish Stuart songwriter, singer and guitarist/bassist with The Average White Band.
Today in 1964, Roy Orbison went to number 1 on the UK singles chart with “Oh Pretty Woman”.
Today in 1988, “Dark Side Of The Moon” by Pink Floyd fell out of the US Billboard’s Hot 200 Album Chart after a record 741 weeks.
Today in 1988, Def Leppard went to number 1 in the US with “Love Bites”
Died today in 1990, Barrie “B J” Wilson drummer with Procol Harum, following a car accident aged 43. Wilson joined the group just after they recorded “A Whiter Shade Of Pale”.
Died today in 2013, Philip Chevron (Philip Ryan) guitarist and songwriter with The Pogues aged 56.
