Cancel culture just keeps getting more ridiculously awful by the day. Obeying the rule that revolutions eat their own, cancel culture warriors are increasingly claiming leftists as well as their traditional, conservative targets. It’s a big ask, of course, to expect the left to wake up to themselves. After all, the people who keep insisting that socialism really will work this time are not exactly renowned for learning from their mistakes.
It’s tempting to sit back and enjoy a good laugh at the latest nadir of cancel culture stupidity, as yet another leftist cops a dose of their own nasty medicine.
A Des Moines Register journalist who reported two tweets he described as “racist jokes” from a viral star is out of a job after his own tweets surfaced, the news outlet announced Thursday evening.
An average white male used his moment of frivolous, fleeting viral fame to do a little good in the world.
Carson King, 24, raised over $1 million after holding up a sign during ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Sept. 14 in Iowa. The sign asked for Venmo donations for his “Busch Light Supply.” King donated the funds, which were matched by Venmo and Busch Light, to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Naturally, the inquisitorial vultures of the left swooped.
Des Moines Register reporter Aaron Calvin reported on two tweets written by King when he was 16.
Seriously? 16? If every dumb thing I said and did at 16, let alone at 26, were plastered all over the press, I’d never leave the house.
“Uh, duh, hey, durr, if you do anything wrong in your life, duh, and I find out about it, I’m gonna try to take everything away from you and I don’t care when I find out. Could be today, tomorrow, 15, 20 years from now. If I find out, you’re f–king, duh, finished”

But the “woke” biter was soon bit, in his turn.
It was discovered that Calvin had his own history of negative tweets, which included tweeting a slur for black people, making light of abusing women and mocking homosexual individuals, The Washington Post reported. Des Moines Register executive editor Carol Hunter wrote Thursday evening that Calvin is “no longer with the Register.”

While it’s grimly amusing to see this woke inquisitor get his comeuppance, this is just ridiculous. Calvin’s tweets were just jokes. Dumb jokes, but jokes. Just like Carson King’s.
Enough is enough. No-one deserves to have their career destroyed and their life ruined just because of some dumb joke they made years ago.
But, if you think Calvin has learned from his ordeal, apparently not. He’s taken to blaming his own sacrifice on the altar of wokeness on…the right.
“The reporter who was fired by the Des Moines Register in the wake of public backlash over a profile on a state hero blamed a right-wing doxxing campaign and his former employer for his pariah status […]This whole campaign was taken up by right-wing ideologues and largely driven by that force,” Aaron Calvin told Buzzfeed News in an interview published Friday.
Calvin told Buzzfeed News he is afraid to go out in public and is staying with a friend.
“It was just a taste of what I assume that women and journalists of color suffer all the time.”
